Surdna Foundation
Led a consulting team with Shalini Gupta of SGupta Consulting and Beth Herz of Herz Consulting to identify ways of measuring progress for the Sustainable Environments program. Using equitable evaluation principles, our consulting team conducted interviews, surveys, and in-person gatherings to surface broad and deep feedback from Surdna’s partners across the country.
River Network
Helped develop the Drinking Water Guide: A Resource for Advocates and led the research and writing of the Community Advocacy and Engagement Section.
National Audubon Society
Jumana led a consulting team that included Ashley Bell, PhD candidate at Tulane University, to develop Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion “How-To Guides” for Audubon chapters, state and regional offices, centers, sanctuaries, and national programs.
National Audubon Society
Partnered with Shalini Gupta, of SGupta Consulting to evaluate National Audubon Society’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) efforts across its national programs, internal operations, and partnerships. The evaluation included a review of internal documents, surveys, and interviews. She is assessing racial and gender diversity across departments, staff perceptions and experiences of hiring and retention practices, workplace culture across offices and departments, and how EDI values are operationalized in marketing, content, communications, fundraising, and procurement practices.
Midwest Environmental Justice Network
Since 2017, Jumana has overseen the small grants program for the Midwest Environmental Justice Network. During this time, Jumana has managed grants to over 20 frontline environmental justice groups in the Midwest. She also helped design and implement rapid response grants in 2020. Jumana has also led fundraising efforts for the Network, enabling the organization to grant over $500,000 to environmental justice groups over three years.
Luminaire Group
Jumana was part of the consulting team led by the Luminare Group to develop a teaching case for how the Kresge Foundation incorporated equitable evaluation strategies into the assessment of a national grantmaking program .
Freshwater Future
Assisted with Freshwater Future’s drinking water efforts, which included supporting the 2018 All About Water convening.
Equitable and Just National Climate Platform
As a representative of the Midwest EJ Network, Jumana has helped develop and advance this historic collaboration between grassroots environmental justice and national environmental organizations. The national platform lays out a bold national climate policy agenda that advances the goals of economic, racial, climate, and environmental justice.
American Rivers
In partnership with Lynn Broaddus of Broadview Collaborative, Inc., Jumana conducted a program evaluation of the conservation and community impact of American Rivers’ national Clean Water Supply program.

Building Equity and Alignment for Impact (BEAI)
Helped raise funds for the BEAI Fund (housed at Grassroots International) and supported the network’s Funder Engagement Working Group.
Detroiters Working for Environmental Justice
Jumana is conducting a comprehensive organizational assessment and will work with the board of directors to develop a strategy to relaunch the organization as it emerges from a leadership transition.
Franciscan Sisters of Mary (Foundation)
Jumana conducted a 6-month research project to identify and understand all the ways a “Just Culture” (e.g., an internal workplace culture that supports staff, volunteers, and partners by upholding principals of equity and compassion) is practiced an can be advanced by frontline environmental justice and environmental nonprofit organizations. The project also examined philanthropic practices to support healthy and equitable nonprofit cultures. This research will be presented in a microsite that is expected to launch in November 2020.
