Led a consulting team with Shalini Gupta of SGupta Consulting and Beth Herz of Herz Consulting to identify ways of measuring progress for the Sustainable Environments program. Using equitable evaluation principles, our consulting team conducted interviews, surveys, and in-person gatherings to surface broad and deep feedback from Surdna’s partners across the country.

Partnered with Shalini Gupta, of SGupta Consulting to evaluate National Audubon Society’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) efforts across its national programs, internal operations, and partnerships. The evaluation included a review of internal documents, surveys, and interviews. She is assessing racial and gender diversity across departments, staff perceptions and experiences of hiring and retention practices, workplace culture across offices and departments, and how EDI values are operationalized in marketing, content, communications, fundraising, and procurement practices.

Midwest Environmental Justice Network

Since 2017, Jumana has overseen the small grants program for the Midwest Environmental Justice Network. During this time, Jumana has managed grants to over 20 frontline environmental justice groups in the Midwest. She also helped design and implement rapid response grants in 2020. Jumana has also led fundraising efforts for the Network, enabling the organization to grant over $500,000 to environmental justice groups over three years.

Franciscan Sisters of Mary (Foundation)

Jumana conducted a 6-month research project to identify and understand all the ways a “Just Culture” (e.g., an internal workplace culture that supports staff, volunteers, and partners by upholding principals of equity and compassion) is practiced an can be advanced by frontline environmental justice and environmental nonprofit organizations. The project also examined philanthropic practices to support healthy and equitable nonprofit cultures. This research will be presented in a microsite that is expected to launch in November 2020.
